Q.How do I contact a City department?
A.Phone numbers, fax numbers, mailing addresses, and e-mail addresses for all City departments are contained in our contact information page or you can view the web page for any City department.

Q.Where can I view information on Cullman's population and demographics?
A.Demographic information for Cullman County can be viewed on the Cullman Economic Development web site.

Q.Where can I obtain a map of Cullman?
A.Maps of the City of Cullman are offered by the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber is located at 211 Second Avenue Northeast and can be reached at (256) 734-0454.

Q.How do I know what department to contact for a particular service?
A.Our City Services page can help you find the correct department to contact for your particular need.

Q.How do I make a request for the Mayor to issue and/or present a proclamation, certificate or other form of recognition?
A.Contact the Mayor's Office at (256) 775-7102 to request a proclamation, certificate or other form of special recognition to be signed and presented by the Mayor.

Q.Where can I get a copy of a city ordinance?
A.You have three options:

  1. You can call the Office of the City Clerk during regular office hours at (256) 775-7109.
  2. You can fax your request to (256) 775-7132.
  3. You can email your request to us at lcollins@cullmancity.org. (Be sure to include your fax number and/or mailing address with your request along with your phone number so we can contact you if there is a problem. We cannot at this time send ordinances via email.)

Q.What form of government does Cullman have?
A.The City of Cullman has a Mayor/Council form of government. Our elected officials consist of a Mayor and five (5) City Councilmembers, who are elected by popular vote to serve concurrent four-year terms.

Q.Who is the Mayor of the City of Cullman?
A.Our Mayor is Donald E. Green. He is currently serving his first term as Mayor.

Q.How many Councilmembers are there and what are their names?
A.There are five (5) Cullman City Councilmembers. They are Wayne Walker, Garlan Gudger, Jr., Ernest W. Hauk, Kevin Morrow and Woody Jacobs.

Q.When and where does the City Council meet?
A.City Council Meetings are held twice a month on the second and fourth Monday nights at 7:00 p.m. The meetings are open to the public and are held in the Lucille N. Galin Municipal Auditorium, which is located just inside the front doors of City Hall. To have an item placed on the City Council agenda, contact Lucille Galin, City Clerk, at (256) 775-7109.

Q.When are the elections for the Mayor and City Council held? How long are their terms?
A.Elections for the Mayor and Cullman City Council are held every four (4) years in August. Both the Mayor and the Councilmembers are elected by popular vote to serve concurrent four year terms. There is no limit on the number of terms a Mayor or Councilmember can serve.

Q.Do you have any jobs/positions available?
A.Announcements of available positions with the City of Cullman are posted on our employment opportunities page. These announcements are also posted on the wall next to the Human Resources Department, which is located on the north end of City Hall at 204 Second Avenue Northeast. You may also call the Human Resources Department at (256) 775-7129 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Q.How do I apply for a job with the City?
A.Most positions with the City are filled through the Personnel Board, a city-wide merit system responsible for the recruitment and testing of job applicants. If you possess the minimum requirements for any position announced and are interested in applying, come by the Human Resources Department located on the north end of Cullman City Hall at 204 Second Avenue Northeast between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, or email us to receive an employment application by fax or mail.

Q.I am a City employee and I have a concern about my benefits. Who do I contact?
A.Speak with your supervisor or manager or refer to your Employee Handbook If you still have questions contact the Human Resources Department at (256) 775-7129.

Q.I am a City of Cullman employee and have been injured on the job. What should I do?
A.Notify your supervisor or manager immediately, no matter how minor the injury may appear!

Q.Where do I pay a fine for a traffic ticket?
A.Payment of a fine is an admission of guilt. If you wish to plead guilty, the Municipal Court Clerk's Office accepts fines for all traffic tickets and misdemeanor cases made by the City of Cullman Police Department. The entrance to the Municipal Court Clerk's Office is located on the south end of Cullman City Hall. If entering from the front of the building, the Municipal Court Clerk's office will be on your right.

Q.Where is the Municipal Courtroom located?
A.The Municipal Court cases are heard and tried in the newly-renovated Lucille N. Galin Municipal Auditorium, located inside City Hall. Parking is available in the south and north end parking lots as well as on Second Avenue NE in front of City Hall. A metal detector is set up at the front entrance of the auditorium through which you must pass before entering the auditorium for court proceedings. If you have a question about or problems with your court date contact the Cullman Municipal Court Clerk's Office at (256) 775-7136.

Q.What time and date am I to appear in Court?
A.You may obtain information about your case by contacting the Municipal Court Clerk's Office during regular office hours at (256) 775-7136.

Q.What do I do if I am unable to appear before the Municipal Court on my court date?
A.Contact the Municipal Court Clerk's Office immediately and explain to the clerk the reason you will be unable to appear. If you fail to appear before the Municipal Court on your court date, and do not call ahead of time to advise of your inability to appear, a warrant may be issued for your arrest. 

Q.My deadline has passed to complete the Defensive Driving Course. What do I need to do?
A.You will need to contact the Municipal Court Clerk's Office during regular office hours.

Q.Am I required to have my pet licensed with the city?
A.All residents of the City of Cullman are required to pay a one-time registration fee for each pet. More information can be found on the Administration page on our site. 

Q.Do I need a City of Cullman business (privilege) license?
A.Call the Business License Department at (256) 775-7109 during regular business hours to find out if you are required to obtain a business (privilege) license.

Q.Do I need to purchase a building permit prior to performing repairs or improvements (construction, electrical, plumbing, roofing, etc.) to a house, building or other structure within the Cullman City limits?
A.To find out if the work you are about to perform requires you to obtain a building permit, contact the Building Inspection Department at (256) 775-7203.  Please note: If you begin work without obtaining the necessary permits, the permit fee may be doubled!

Q.Do I need a permit to have a yard sale, rummage sale or garage sale within the City limits? If so, how much is the permit and is there a limit on how many sales I can have?
A.Yes, the City of Cullman requires you to purchase a yard sale permit prior to your sale. The cost of the permit is $5.00 per day. The City of Cullman allows only two (2) yard sales per year at any address.

Q.Where do I obtain a Cullman Drivers License or a tag/license plate for my vehicle or boat?
A.All drivers licenses, vehicle tags and license plates can be obtained at the Cullman County Courthouse. They can be reached at (256) 739-3530 or you can visit their web site for more information.

Q.Where do I pick up an accident report or other police report?
A.Reports for accidents within the Cullman city limits can be picked up at the Cullman Police Department, located in the old Post Office building at 301 First Street NE. (Learn more about the Records Department at the Cullman City Police web site.)

Q.Where is the City of Cullman Police Department located?
A.The Cullman Police Department is located in the old Post Office building at 301 First Street NE, a block southeast of Cullman City Hall.

Q.What can I do if I am a victim of domestic violence?
A.If you are being physically or sexually abused or threatened by a family or household member, or if you fear such abuse, please call the Cullman Police Department immediately at (256) 775-7145 or dial 9-1-1.

Q.How do I report a crime?
A.If you are a victim of a crime, or if you have information regarding a crime, call the Cullman Police Department at (256) 775-7145 or dial 9-1-1.

Q.I want to issue a complaint against a City of Cullman Police Officer. Who do I contact?
A.Contact Police Chief Kenny Culpepper or Assistant Police Chief Gordon Sandlin at (256) 775-7160.

Q.On what day is my garbage/brush/recycling picked up by the Sanitation/Recycling Department?
A.This information may be obtained by calling the Sanitation Department at (256) 737-7560 during regular business hours.

Q.How do I report that my garbage, brush or recycling was not picked up?
A.Call the Sanitation Department at (256) 737-7560 during regular business hours.

Q.How can I have construction/remodeling material picked up or brush/bulky items picked up outside the normal collection period?
A.There is an additional fee for this service. Contact the Sanitation Department at (256) 737-7560 for more information.

Q.Where do I report a malfunctioning or damaged traffic signal?
A.Contact the Traffic Maintenance Department at (256) 739-2410. After regular office hours or on weekends contact Police Dispatch at (256) 734-1434.

Q.Who do I contact about a damaged or missing traffic sign?
A.Contact the Street Department at (256) 737-7560. After regular office hours or on weekends contact Police Dispatch at (256) 734-1434.

Q.How do I get my street or curb repaired?
A.Contact the Street Department at (256) 737-7560 to report street repairs, including potholes. Please indicate if the repair need is hazardous so an emergency response crew can be immediately dispatched. Routine repairs will be performed as workloads permit.

Q.What do I do if I notice water bubbling up through the ground, a wet area appearing during dry weather, or a loss of water pressure?
A.These signs may indicate a break in a water main. This is a serious problem and require immediate attention. If you notice any of these signs you should contact the Water Department at (256) 775-7210. After regular office hours or on weekends, contact Police Dispatch at (256) 775-7145.

Q.Why am I currently without water and how long will it be before my service is restored?
A.There are several factors that can lead to a disruption of your water service, usually a damaged water line in your area. Anytime water service is disrupted, the City of Cullman Water Department strives to fix the problem and restore the service as quickly as possible.

If you find that you are without water notify the City of Cullman Water Department at (256) 775-7210. After regular office hours or on weekends contact Police Dispatch at (256) 775-7145. 

Q.How do I report a missing or damaged manhole cover or a stopped-up storm drain?
A.Contact the Sewer Department during regular office hours at (256) 775-7210. After regular office hours or on weekends contact Police Dispatch at (256) 775-7145.

Q.Who do I contact with questions about my water bill?
A.Contact the City Water Department during regular office hours at (256) 775-7210. 

Q.Where does my drinking water come from and how is it treated?
A.The City of Cullman's water is provided by the Utilities Board of the City of Cullman. Our water source is Lake Catoma.
