Notice of State Fee for Building Permits (Effective October 1, 2016)
The Building Inspection Department ensures the safety of the public through the enforcement of construction codes. The department issues and tracks all permits for building, plumbing, HVAC, electrical work, and signage to be performed within the City of Cullman. Inspections are performed on all construction within the City of Cullman to determine compliance with applicable codes. The department also services as the contact for all planning and zoning matters (including plans review, setbacks, property lines, easements, annexations, and so forth) and assists with the enforcement of the City's nuisance ordinance.

2016 Planning Commission Meeting Calendar


The Planning Commission was created on April 8, 1963, and consists of 9 members. Current members (as of 6/8/2016) include Mayor Max A. Townson and City Council member Andy Page (ex officio members), Bobby Kelley, Wendell Copeland, Cherri Drake, Gene Green, Mike Voss, Steve Cummings, and Barrett Richard. The terms of the ex officio members (Mayor and City Council member) correspond to their official elected office tenures. All other members serve staggered six-year terms. Meetings are normally held on the 1st Monday night of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall Auditorium.

Zoning Board of Adjustments & Appeals

2016 Zoning Board Meeting Calendar


The Zoning Board of Adjustments & Appeals was created on July 11, 1955.

Members serve staggered three-year terms. Current members (as of 6/8/2016) include: Mary Ellen Werner, Ed Henke, Rita Nielson, Don Hewitt, Curtis Mize, and Brad Jones (supernumerary). Meetings are normally held on the 3rd Monday night of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall Auditorium.

Downtown Design Review Board
The Design Review Board normally meets on the 1st Monday afternoon of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Building Department Conference Room located at 201 Second Avenue Northeast, across the street from Cullman City Hall.

Members are appointed by the City Council to serve staggered four-year terms. Current members include Danny McAfee, Donna Richter, Mary Ellen Werner, Eva Payne,and Becky Bonham.

The purpose of the board is to provide for the improvement of street facade appearance and building quality, and to promote and develop for the public good and general welfare trade, commerce, industry, and employment opportunities in the City of Cullman.
